FORT MILL — The Fort Mill School District has cancelled classes for Thursday due to a water main break in Rock Hill that is disrupting service in this area.
“These interruptions in service will impact the use of restroom facilities and potable drinking water. York County Emergency Management has recommended that we close school facilities tomorrow, Thursday, October 10 as a result of this issue,” according to a statement from the district.
“This includes the cancellation of all after school activities,” the statement says, adding “If any further changes to the school day for the remainder of the week are needed, we will notify our community once they are determined. The district will use the makeup day scheduled for Friday, October 18, to recover this lost time.”
The break occurred Wednesday on Cherry Road, flooding and closing part of the road. Officials said millions of gallons of water flowed from the underground break. Local municipalities have issued boil water warnings until further notice.
Park bathrooms in the Town of Fort Mill are closed until further notice as well. Crews are working to restore service, but there’s no estimate for when that’s expected.
