Live music + food + beer + flicks is Fort Mill’s formula for downtown summer fun

The Extraordinaires take the stage at Fort Mill Veterans Park Friday.

FORT MILL — If you like some rhythm with your blues and have a healthy appetite for food trucks and good beer, then you want to be in downtown Fort Mill Friday evening.

The town’s free Summer Concert Series continues at 6 p.m. July 12 with The Extraordinaires in Veterans Park on North White Street. The Hickory, NC-based has been helping people with happy feet get their groove on for over 10 years now, showcasing a deep repertouir

Get on your feet and feel the groove from the Charlotte and Hickory, N.C.-based group as they perform a blend of hits from the last several decades at Veterans Park. The venue opens at 6

p.m. with several food truck vendors selling a variety of food, including hot dogs, chicken tenders and BBQ. The concert begins at 7 p.m.

On Aug. 3, head to Main Street for the town’s combination concert and hot pepper eating contest. Grab your old boombox and get ready for some 80s tunes at 7 p.m. from Cassette Rewind who perform various pop hits from the decade. The event will also feature a Hot Pepper Eating Contest sponsored by PuckerButt Pepper Company. Food truck dining will be available during the event as well.

Please note that no pets, coolers or outside alcohol, food or drink are allowed at the events.

Upcoming Movies in the Park

Fort Mill’s ‘Movies in the Park’ presents “Marmaduke” on Friday, July 19. With a cast that includes Lee Pace and William H. Macy, as well as the voices of Owen Wilson, Emma Stone and George Lopez, the story revolves around the adventures of a Great Dane named Marmaduke. The movie begins at dusk (around 8:30 p.m.). Bring your blankets and chairs to Veterans Park and enjoy the free movie with your family under the stars! Concessions will be available for purchase.

The town will also feature its rescheduled movie “Ice Age: Collision Course” on Friday, Aug. 9 in Veterans Park. Featuring the voices of Ray Ramano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary and Queen Latifah, the movie follows Manny the mammoth and his friends as they search for ways to fend off a swarm of impending asteroids. The movie begins around 8:30 p.m. and concessions will be available for purchase at this event as well.
